The Robe
A film about the tribune Gallio, who was in charge of carrying out the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. After his conversion to Christianity, he becomes an even braver and nobler man than he was.
During the reign of Tiberius, the tribune Gallius gets into a dispute with Caligula and is sent to serve in Jerusalem. At the time that Gallio enters Jerusalem, Jesus also arrives in the city.
With Gaius, his slave Demetrius arrives in Jerusalem. Demetrius decides to warn Jesus as soon as he learns that he is about to be captured. However, he arrives too late.
Pilate tells Gaius that he is to go to the island of Capri, but before doing so, he commissions him to execute Jesus and the two criminals. Gallio is haunted by bad dreams and phobias after Jesus’ martyrdom.
Gallio comes to Capri to see Diana and the emperor. He tells the emperor about the strange events surrounding Jesus. Gallius believes that when he destroys the garment Jesus was briefly covered in, his troubles will cease. Therefore, he sets out to return to Palestine.
In Palestine, Gallius meets Christians. Thanks to them, he also finds Demetrius, who still has the garment with him. Demetrius, however, warns Gallio that he is not sick because of the garment, but because of his conscience and his sin.
Gallius finds the gift of conversion, stands up in defense of the Christians, and later becomes a Christian himself.
When Tiberius dies, Gallio’s enemy Caligula becomes emperor. Gallius comes to Rome with other Christians and there he also meets Diana. He rescues Demetrius from captivity, but Emperor Caligula is furious and has Gallius captured. All Gallius has to do to save his life is to deny Jesus.
