A true story about the life of a man who endured torture at the hands of Japanese soldiers during World War II and, despite everything, found the strength to forgive.

Former British officer Eric Lomax meets a woman named Patti on a train and, in his later years, falls in love with her. After some time, they marry, and Patti gradually discovers the various emotional wounds Eric carries within him.

During World War II, Eric Lomax was taken prisoner by the Japanese, where he endured unimaginable slave labor and starvation while building a railroad. The worst thing he experienced, however, was the horrific torture he endured at the hands of the Japanese for building a radio receiver.

At a certain point in his life with Patti, Eric discovers that his Japanese torturer from World War II is still alive and knows where he works. He considers revenge and sets out to meet him.

After a difficult internal struggle, Eric meets his Japanese torturer for the second time in his life. Instead of seeking revenge, he decides to do something entirely different.
