Togo, a Siberian husky, is the central character in this 1925 story about the rescue of the Alaskan town of Nome from a diphtheria epidemic. A relay of 19 teams ran an average of 50 km to fetch the serum, but Leonhard Seppala ran 425 km with his dog team. Togo led the pack.

Seppala sets out on the arduous journey despite the inclement weather. Few believe he will make it, but there is no other option. Too many human lives were at stake.

Seppala had a dog—a wild, tenacious, and determined Siberian husky. He loved his master, Seppala, dearly. Were it not for his endurance and unique nature, the dog team would likely have given up after just the first few dozen kilometers.
