Tim Hughes is a young man growing up in the challenging 1960s, in an American high school environment. His father is a strongly anti-religious television presenter. Over time, however, his son begins to change his father’s distorted view of religion and life.
Tim grows up in a non-religious family. One summer, he goes to a Christian camp and experiences a spiritual conversion. When he returns home, he tells his parents about it, but they are not at all impressed.
In front of his friends, however, he has trouble talking about his newfound faith and also acting openly differently than before. Later he joins other Christian students in the party. This community of young people, however, is quite closed, and Tim also cares for his rebellious friend.
Because of this, his new friends begin to distance themselves from him, but Tim is not to be disgusted. He is encouraged by the inspiration of Jesus’ sacrifice and openness even to great sinners.
