Of Gods and Men
The true story of religious men who worked in the harsh conditions of North Africa, where they faced the terror of armed groups. A film highlighting the determination, courage, loyalty and sacrifice that comes from trust in God.
The local monks are the mainstay of the people of the area, not only materially. They help with their skill in healing and with their advice, willingness to listen and encouragement.
The film depicts their ordinary daily life, their work, their conversations, their service to others, all interspersed with regular prayer.
Among others, Muslim militants visit their monastery a few times when they need help. After several violent incidents, the monks fear for their lives and realize that it is only a matter of time before their lives are on the line.
All of them, despite the threat to their lives, decide not to go home to France but to stay with the locals.
Parents Guide: More times a demonstration of people killed. The beating of workers by terrorists and the slitting of the throat of one Croatian worker, coupled with some very explicit footage. Drinking wine. The film could have had a slightly faster plot. A lot of time is devoted to the prayers of the nuns.
