St. Giuseppe Moscati: Doctor to the Poor
A beautiful film that makes humanity, love, and most importantly tremendous sacrifice shine through. Saint Giuseppe Moscati was confronted not only with the physical misery of many people, but also with spiritual misery. He was able to help effectively in both cases thanks to his expertise, his love and his faithfulness to God.
Giuseppe Moscati was a physician, professor, scientist, and was renowned for his extraordinary approach to the poor. He lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The film shows the greatness of the personality of this man who was close to his patients at all times. At a time when other doctors were already indulging in various pleasures, Moscati went around the neighbourhoods where the poorest lived and gave them medical care. He was concerned not only with physical healing, but also with the health of souls.
The film begins with the period of Moscati’s studies and continues with the period of his medical practice. Moscati also cared for people that no one wanted to touch. He continues his selfless work even in the war years. The film also shows the greatness of Moscati as a loyal friend even when those close to him screwed him over.
The advancing secularism and the decline of morality in Europe did not mollify Moscati. To those around him, he was living proof that God works great incomprehensible miracles through his faithful.
The spice of the film is Moscati’s joyful nature and his peculiar sense of humour.
