St. Paul
An elaboration of the life of the Apostle Paul and his missionary work from Jerusalem to Rome. The story of a zealous persecutor of Christians who turned into one of the greatest preachers of the Gospel in the world.
Shortly after the opening of the film, the time of Pentecost arrives and there is an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the apostles.
At that time, the Pharisee Paul is portrayed as a more or less passive persecutor of Christians, but under the influence of his friend, the Sadducee Reuben, he is transformed into an uncompromising and consistent opponent of this new blasphemous sect, as Paul perceives Christians at that time.
Later, however, comes his mystical encounter with Jesus, his conversion, and his initiation into life among Christians.
The plot goes on to explore Paul’s missionary journeys, and in part the life of the early Christians and the dialogue within the Church of the time.
Parents Guide: 1x scene of Reuben’s wife with her breasts exposed; 1x scene with a defiantly dressed dancer in front of King Herod. Several violent scenes, e.g. stoning, throat slitting, etc. In one scene where the Christians meet Jesus’ mother Mary, a show of respect for Mary is rather arbitrarily rejected by her, which is probably due to the Protestant background of at least some of the filmmakers.
Cast: Johannes Brandrup, Thomas Lockyer, Barbora Bobuľová, Ennio Fantastichini, G. W. Bailey, Giorgio Pasotti, Franco Nero, Daniela Poggi, Umberto Orsini, Christian Brendel, Giovanni Lombardo Radice, Jack Hedley, Faith Brook, Mohamed Bensouda
Crew: Roger Young
