The story of Angus Buchan, a Scottish, Protestant farmer who lived with his family in Africa. Angus lived for a long time in constant fear and periodic tantrums. This was a result of a bad situation where white farmers were often killed by local black armed groups, and also because of Angus’ own convulsive desire to achieve the goals he had set for himself, without trusting in God.
Angus’ wife always took refuge in God in good times and hard times. On one occasion, when she manages to persuade Angus to attend a religious gathering with her, the words of the pastor touch Angus’ heart. Gradually, as his trust in God grows, both fear and aggression disappear from his life.
Angus becomes an evangelist who wants God to be loved not only by the local black residents but also by other farmers who had previously only worshipped beer in the pub.
God performs several miracles through Angus, and even in his overall life it is evident that God is blessing him.
People notice Angus’ faith and life with God the most when there is a barren season. Even then, Angus does not stop trusting God.
Even though from a purely secular point of view it is foolishness to plant and sow during the long drought that has affected his area, he still plants potatoes in the field. It doesn’t look promising at all, but in the end he has an even bigger harvest than in other years.
The film may at some moments seem incredible, even artificial. This is understandable, as things of faith, which includes belief in miracles, are not equally accepted or experienced by everyone in the same way in their own lives.
