Wesley
Principle, fidelity to the gospel, fidelity to God and to his promises are the basic characteristics of the main character, who is John Wesley, an Anglican or Methodist preacher. On the other hand, there is the conceit and superiority of the rich over the poor, who are seen by the rich as reprobates and often as human refuse. John Wesley, however, has the courage to take the side of the poor and oppressed against the powerful.
John Wesley is a principled Christian, with his ‘flies’ of course, who is mainly a do-gooder in his native Britain. He later becomes a preacher and has a desire to spread the gospel among the Indians in America.
After arriving in the state of Virginia, he remains to work among the white settlers. However, he alienates them by his principles, for which, among other things, he renounces his marriage to a woman with whom he falls in love. However, his preaching in the local churches provokes the greatest hostility towards him.
In his sermons, he unsparingly points out the sinfulness and hypocrisy of the rich. Therefore, they begin to expel him from the churches. Eventually he returns to Britain, where he continues his preaching, but with similar results, arousing the resentment and hostility of the rich.
