An Italian biographical film about Saint Padre Pio, who became known throughout the world for his humility, obedience, courage, and stigmata. An Italian Capuchin who lived in a monastery in San Giovanni Rotondo.

In this film adaptation, a priest who does not hide his skepticism and aversion to this 20th-century saint engages in dialogue with Padre Pio. During their conversation, Padre Pio goes through various stages of his life. He testifies that his actions were not motivated by pride but by love, and that his stigmata were not lies or pretense but real wounds.

The story briefly pauses at Pio’s childhood, youth, and ordination as a priest. It shows that from a young age he was a thorn in the side of Satan, who actually attacked him physically.

Father Pio’s life is accompanied by various miracles, his courageous and principled actions, his strictness, but also his expressions of love and mercy.

Padre Pio is confronted with various personal spiritual problems of specific people, but also with distrust towards him. A significant part of the film is devoted to the theme of building his great work, which was the hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo.

Padre Pio was a great man chosen by God. Some still consider him a fraud, but the astonished doctors who examined him and the fact that after many years of bleeding from his hands, feet, and side, no scars remained on his skin, are testimony to a phenomenon for which science has no satisfactory explanation.
