The story of the imprisoned Apostle Paul, visited by Luke, who wrote the Acts of the Apostles based on Paul’s accounts. A story about the persecution of the early Christians in Rome, the decline of paganism, and the search for the meaning of life.

The film’s plot unfolds through conversations between the Apostle Paul and Luke, a physician and evangelist, who comes to visit Paul in prison. Paul recounts to Luke the events of his life, from the time before his conversion to Christianity to his new life in Christ.

In ancient Rome, Christians are imprisoned, tortured, and killed. Those who remain free face the constant threat of persecution. Three-quarters of the film are somewhat monotonous and focused on depicting the difficult circumstances of the time. It is only in roughly the last quarter of the film that deeper ideas emerge, which may lead a thoughtful person to reflect on the essence of life and existence itself.

Another touching moment is when Luke provides medical care to the son of a Roman official. Luke is portrayed as a forgiving man who loves even his enemies, following the example of Christ. The Roman official, after all, is responsible for the torture of many Christians.
