A desperate man named James loses his daughter because of his own incompetence. That same man forces two women into sexual slavery. Later, he finds a friend who dies as a result of James’s recklessness. It seems like a completely senseless and hopeless downward spiral. But it’s exactly the opposite.

James’s wife dies. His life falls apart, and he loses his daughter because he can’t even hold down a job. Eventually, he ends up working for people involved in illegal trade.

One day, he gets into an accident. He discovers that he’s transporting two young women from Mexico in his car. He tries to treat them as well as he can. The women believe they’re going to the U.S. for decent work so they can send money to their debt-ridden father in Mexico. James delivers the “shipment.” As one might expect, this is a human trafficking operation, though James pretends to be clueless. The young women are sold into prostitution.

When James eventually puts two and two together—combined with the feelings he’s developed for the older of the two girls—he decides to take action. He’s determined to find both young Mexican women and set them free. He finds support for his plan from the owner of the motel where he’s staying. The owner decides to help him with his rescue mission. But things don’t go as smoothly as James had imagined. The situation is complicated mainly by the fact that the older sister’s priority is the safety of her younger sister, María, without whom she refuses to leave, while James is unable to rescue both girls at the same time so easily.

A gritty yet beautiful story about how a particular experience and suffering can bring salvation and freedom to others.
