This highly acclaimed film set during World War II tells the story of the courage and suffering of those who refused to remain silent and stood up against the ideology, lies, and criminal regime of their time.

Helmuth, a sixteen-year-old boy, serves in the Hitler Youth and works as an intern at city hall. When his brother returns home with a shortwave radio, he begins listening to banned BBC broadcasts that reveal the reality of Hitler’s aggression.

The turning point comes when his Jewish friend Salomon is beaten and taken away by the Nazis. Helmuth begins to question his loyalty to the regime, even though his bishop in the Mormon Church preaches obedience to the Nazis.

Together with his friends Karl and Rudi, he begins to spread criticism of the Nazi regime. Helmuth borrows a typewriter and prints leaflets exposing the National Socialists’ lies. At night, they distribute them throughout Hamburg.
