The Impossible
Based on real events from 2004, this story recounts the incident in which a tsunami struck the coasts of Thailand and other countries in the Indian Ocean region, claiming more than 200,000 lives. The main characters are Henry and Maria and their family, who were caught up in this tragedy.
The story begins with Henry, Maria, and their children flying to Thailand for a vacation, where they are staying at a beautiful hotel near the Indian Ocean coast. Their relaxing time is unexpectedly disrupted by the arrival of the tsunami, which transforms the landscape beyond recognition.
The film focuses on Maria and her older son as they fight for survival—first amid the waves of the tsunami itself, and later in the hospital, where Maria is admitted in critical condition, and it is uncertain whether she will survive.
The film showcases the selflessness of people in dire straits who, despite their own struggles, are willing to lend a helping hand to others in need.
