A group of American prisoners decide to escape. Several of them manage to break free from the Nazi soldiers and embark on a risky journey through snow-covered countryside controlled by the German army.
As they advance, they encounter groups of German soldiers, whom they either avoid or engage in a firefight that claims victims.
The film’s plot is interwoven with the soldiers’ personal testimonies, and it reflects the different approaches to war taken by a Christian soldier nicknamed “Deacon” and the other mercenaries.
