A drama about the last days of the illegal White Rose group during the Nazi era. A powerful film about the personal courage of several young students.
Rothemund’s film chose Sophie Scholl as its central character, through whom he successfully brought the drama to life.
The White Rose student movement is dedicated to distributing leaflets against the National Socialist government in Germany. It is a group of young idealists willing to change the world despite considerable risks.
After being exposed by the Nazis, the main actors of the White Rose are arrested and interrogated. The subsequent plot focuses primarily on the interrogation of young Sophie and the exchange of views between her and the investigator. At the same time, Sophie’s brother is also being interrogated.
A house search yields irrefutable evidence of their anti-Nazi activities. Sophia declares her conviction that, despite everything, she did the best she could for her nation. She is willing to accept even the highest punishment for her decision.
