The story of a woman who received a great blessing from God. The founder of a religious order, she was gifted with the ability to converse directly with Christ. Among other things, she conveyed to people God’s answers to many questions about the meaning of suffering.

Brigitta came from a prominent family that had produced several kings of Sweden. She was intelligent and well-educated. She had her first mystical experience when she was just seven years old.

When she turned fourteen, her father wanted to marry her off to the young nobleman Ulf Gudmarsson. Brigitta was already considering religious life at that time, yet she submitted to her father’s will. She was pleased to discover that Ulf was a noble and devout man. They had eight children, several of whom chose the religious life.

Brigitta was troubled by the moral decay of Rome at that time. The Swedish visionary admonished both secular and ecclesiastical authorities; she pleaded, prayed, and fasted. In 1367, she lived to see Pope Urban V return to Rome. This pope also confirmed the religious order she had founded on August 5, 1370. Impressed by the unrest in Rome and the grave situation in France, the pope decided to return to Avignon once again. Bridget predicted that this decision would lead to his early death, which indeed came to pass.

Because of her extraordinary life and the great number of miracles that accompanied Bridget both during her lifetime and after her death, Pope Boniface IX declared her a saint as early as 1391.

The film is a combination of fiction and documentary segments. The occasionally lackluster acting is offset by the depth of the remarkable messages Jesus conveyed to Saint Brigitta. The colorful life Brigitta led provided the basis for a film script with numerous plot twists.
