A Time for Miracles is a biographical drama that chronicles the life of Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton, the first saint born in the United States. The film traces her journey from an Episcopalian background to her canonization in the Catholic Church by Pope Paul VI. It is a film about a saint who opened free Catholic schools and orphanages while fighting against the mistreatment of young people.

The beginning of the film portrays Elizabeth as a happily married Episcopalian wife and mother of five children living in New York. A major turning point occurs in her life when her husband, William Seton, dies of tuberculosis in Italy.

As a widow, Elizabeth opens a small school to support her family. She later converts to Catholicism, which leads to attacks from her community and family. As an outcast, she and her daughters seek refuge in Baltimore under the guidance of John Carroll, the first American Catholic bishop. In Baltimore, she also begins to live a life according to religious rules.

Together with her daughter and other young women, she moves to Maryland, where she founds a school and a convent for the Sisters of Mercy. Despite her successes, she also experiences personal tragedies, such as the deaths of two of her daughters. Her work also faces various other obstacles, which she resolutely overcomes.
