A film focusing on the events surrounding the Čihošť Miracle, which triggered the persecution of Josef Toufar, the parish priest in the village of Čihošť, during the communist regime. It contrasts the brutality of the henchmen of the atheist communist regime with the humility of Father Toufar.

After people attending Mass in the church see the cross moving from one side to the other, news of the event spreads. People refer to the cross’s movement as a miracle.

The State Security Service (ŠTB) begins to take an interest in the local priest, Josef Toufar. The ŠTB begins interrogating Toufar and, during the interrogations, even tortures him in an attempt to extract a confession that he staged the entire event, so that the communists can prove to the people that it was a hoax.

The communists commission a propaganda film, which is shot directly in the village of Čihošť. At first, they want the real priest, Josef Toufar, to appear in it, but due to his serious health condition, he is unable to do so, and so they cast a stand-in for him in the film.

Toufar eventually dies as a result of the torture he endured during interrogation. He did not admit to staging the entire incident, as it appears to have occurred without his involvement.
