A story about the culmination of Nelson Mandela’s life journey. Although there were several controversial periods in his life, this film highlights and glorifies the positive aspects that serve as a source of inspiration.
Nelson Mandela becomes president of the Republic of South Africa. Despite the injustices he experienced firsthand, he forgives and strives for reconciliation between whites and blacks throughout the nation.
Not only he, but many others as well, stand by his side and, through various gestures and stances, help build bridges while breaking down the barriers between blacks and whites.
In this fight against racism, Mandela also manages to win over the South African rugby team. His successes help unite the entire nation.
The film explores several profound themes. It focuses on numerous moments of building friendship and overcoming mistrust between Black and white people.
Setting aside the film’s idealized portrayal, it’s important to remember that Mandela was a controversial figure during his lifetime. He was a co-founder of the militant group Umkhonto we Sizwe, which waged a campaign of sabotage against the apartheid government. He was sentenced to many years in prison as a communist terrorist. Nevertheless, he gained recognition for his many activities.
