Coach John Harrison, under the influence of unexpected events, must shift his focus from leading a basketball team to coaching a single asthmatic runner. After some time, John meets Thomas at the hospital, who was also a runner in the past. John befriends him and gains advice from him for his new coaching role. Later, John discovers that Thomas’s connection to the hospital is linked to a strained family bond with his protégée. A struggle for time, forgiveness, and the discovery of one’s own identity begins.

The film *The Overcomer* has a few shortcomings in terms of an overly predictable plot, or perhaps due to the sudden, somewhat melodramatic transformations of several characters. These shortcomings are offset by profound messages that any father who wants to be a loving husband and a role model for his children can take to heart.
