The Elephant Man
A film about the life of John Merrick, whom the world knew as the Elephant Man. He was born in 1860 in Leicester. He suffered from an extremely rare hereditary condition called Proteus Syndrome. A powerful film about how even a disabled person has deep desires and worth.
What made poor John Merrick an elephant man was meeting Bytes. This man made him a living pilgrimage attraction. Fascinated people paid for the opportunity to see the elephant-man.
The hectic life of a circus “animal” took its toll on Merrick’s already pretty miserable health. Thus, the second wave of popularity passed him by in the hospital, where he spent more and more time.
Here he experienced the security and friendship of his physician, Sir Frederick Treves. The latter becomes his protector and supporter.
Merrick was a man who had gone through various cruelties in life. On the other hand, he was able to appreciate love and goodness.
Parents Guide: More times violent dealing with John. A couple of scenes with drinking alcohol. Multiple scenes of insensitive treatment of John. In the end, Merrick’s attempt to sleep like other people after lying down may seem like suicide because Merrick knew what he was in danger of.
