A heartwarming family story about a young woman named Sarah and her sister’s children, who complicate her plans for the life she had envisioned for herself.
Sarah and her sister grew up without parents. They had only each other. When they grew up, Sarah’s sister married an Amish man. Because of this, they stopped seeing each other, as the Amish lead a very isolated way of life.
Over time, Sarah’s sister’s husband passed away, and eventually she did as well. Sarah attends her sister’s funeral, where she meets her sister’s children, who have no one to care for them. Sarah decides to take the children to her home in the city, away from the Amish community. Otherwise, the children’s fate would have been uncertain, since no Amish family was able to take all the children into their care at once.
Life in the city proves challenging for the children. Sarah, a not-very-successful journalist, tries to use this new situation in her life to restore her reputation as a reporter. After a while, however, things stop going the way she’d hoped.
Eventually, she realizes that everything she did was for her own benefit, without regard for the true well-being of her sister’s children, whom she had taken into her care.
