The film The Pride of Jesse Hallam symbolizes the ability to humble oneself and the determination to overcome obstacles and change one’s life out of love for one’s loved ones.
The film follows the story of Jesse Hallam, a miner from Kentucky who recently lost his wife and his job. His daughter Jenny needs spinal surgery, which can only be performed at a hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jesse therefore sells the family farm, takes his children and moves with them to Cincinnati so that he can provide medical care for his daughter.
Upon arriving in the city, Jesse pays for Jenny’s surgery, but soon encounters a problem—he cannot read or write. After losing his driver’s license due to his ignorance of the rules, he gets help from Italian salesman Sal Galucci, who finds him a job and helps him find a reading teacher, Marian, who begins to tutor him.
Jesse tries to learn to read because he wants to secure a better future for himself and his children, and he resolutely attends classes so that he can eventually graduate from high school. His son Ted is having problems at school and is even in danger of failing, which motivates Jesse even more to learn and overcome difficulties.
