The film Audrey’s Children is a true story that pays tribute to oncologist Dr. Audrey Evans. In 1971, Evans developed a staging system for neuroblastoma that made it possible to select the most effective treatment regimens for patients with this type of cancer.

In 1969, Dr. Audrey Evans joins a prestigious children’s hospital in Philadelphia. The main plotline centers on her work on a groundbreaking treatment for childhood cancer, particularly neuroblastoma—a dangerous type of tumor that, at the time, caused 90% of children with the disease to die.

Audrey wants to experiment with combination chemotherapy and is meticulous about treating even the test animals humanely. Unfortunately, resistance from her colleagues, hospital rules, her compassion for the children, and the pleas of their parents force her to break the rules on several occasions. Her greatest motivation comes from her personal bond with a young patient named Mia, whom she entertains with imaginative conversations and games.

In addition to her scientific work, Audrey is also concerned with the social well-being of her patients’ families. She witnesses how the children’s families must choose between paying for treatment and staying close to their children, and leading a normal life. That is why she founded the first Ronald McDonald House—a place where families can stay for free and be with their sick children.

Although the film has a slower pace and lacks major dramatic twists, it doesn’t feel boring. Good dubbing would help it.
