The family film The Crossing deals with the events of World War II. The parents of siblings Gerda and Otto are active in the Norwegian resistance movement. One day before Christmas in 1942, they are arrested, and their children are left to fend for themselves.

Based on clues from their parents, Gerda and Otto discover two Jewish children, Sarah and Daniel, whom their parents had been hiding from the Nazis.

Now it is up to the siblings to finish what their parents started. They decide to help Sarah and Daniel cross the border into neutral Sweden. Along the way, however, various obstacles and dangers await them.

The story is told from a child’s perspective, with imagination, naivety, and a thirst for adventure.

People being taken away by the Nazis. A fistfight between boys. Gunshots are heard during the chase of a young boy. One instance of a boy being called “fatso.” In a house where a woman who collaborated with the Nazis lives, the camera first shows a painting of Jesus on the wall, followed by one of Hitler. Not that such cases didn’t exist, but this appears to be deliberate subliminal anti-Christian—or possibly anti-Catholic—propaganda, even though in reality it was Christians who played a significant role in saving Jews.
