A true story about events from 2003, just before the war in Iraq. The film explores the political pressures behind the scenes and the courage of individuals who decided to speak out despite the risks.

Katharine Gun receives a classified email from the NSA. It contains a request from Frank Koza for Britain to engage in influencing—even blackmailing—members of the UN Security Council in order to secure their votes for the invasion of Iraq.

Katharine decides to make the contents of the email public because she considers it the most honest thing she can do for the people of Britain. This happens at a time when doubts are spreading about whether Iraq possesses weapons of mass destruction.

Journalists from The Observer publish the email, sparking a scandal. Due to errors in the text caused by the conversion from American to British English, the report itself is called into question and labeled a hoax by the public.

Gunn refuses to stand idly by as the world hurtles toward an illegal war and decides to defy the government. In doing so, however, she puts not only herself but also her family in grave danger.
