Ceddie lives a simple life with his mother in modest circumstances in America. One day, Mr. Havisham visits them, bringing a message from Ceddie’s grandfather—the Earl of Dorincourt.

Dorincourt wants Ceddie to come live in Britain, where a comfortable, secure life awaits him. Furthermore, upon Dorincourt’s death, Ceddie is to become the heir to the entire earldom. So Ceddie and his mother leave their friends in New York and come to England.

However, Dorincourt despises Ceddie’s mother because she is not of aristocratic descent, and he refuses to allow her to live with them under the same roof; therefore, Ceddie’s mother lives in another house nearby.

Ceddie’s kindness, along with his mother’s kindness and compassion, transform not only the living conditions of the people around them but also the heart of the proud Earl of Dorincourt himself. Ceddie, now known as the Little Lord Fauntleroy, uses the wealth at his disposal not only for himself but, above all, to help others.
