The beautiful scenery of the Alps, majestic eagles, and a boy named Lucas, who fills his loneliness by caring for a rejected eaglet doomed to die.

Kings of the Mountains is a story that begins with the young eagle Abel being thrown from the nest by his brother Cain. Lucas, who after his mother’s death is growing up with only his embittered father—toward whom his aversion is growing—named them both after the well-known biblical story.

Lucas secretly cares for the eagle Abel and forms a close bond with him. With the help of the kind-hearted hunter Danzer, he teaches Abel to fly and hunt. When Abel grows up, Lucas finds it difficult to grant him the freedom Abel longs for.

Eventually, he realizes that freedom in the wild is what’s best for Abel. Some time later, he discovers that Abel hasn’t completely forgotten him, and their paths cross once again. More importantly, however, he also finds his way back to his wounded father.
